Appointment of the MFO's Next Force Commander

The MFO Rome Headquarters announced today the appointment of Brigadier General Denis Thompson of Canada as the MFO’s next Commander of the peacekeeping force and observers stationed in the Sinai. The appointment was made with the approval of the Governments of Egypt and Israel. Brigadier General Thompson will serve as MFO Force Commander and be promoted to Major General for a two-year term commencing 3 March 2014.

Fulfillment of the MFO Mission

The MFO continues to fulfill its mission to observe, verify and report in the four Treaty Zones.  To keep our personnel as safe as possible, the MFO constantly assesses the security situation in its area of operations and, as necessary, adjusts its operations and logistics; we have a robust program for protection of our personnel and locations.

Australia Becomes MFO Donor

Australia has agreed to become a financial donor and is committed to providing fiscal support for 3 years starting in MFO FY 2013 (October 1, 2012-September 30, 2013).
