For a fourth year in a row Japan will provide the MFO with exceptional supplemental force protection funding

Japan has advised the MFO that it will again provide supplemental funding in support of urgent force protection efforts. These funds go a long way in aiding the MFO to continue its mission of peace and confidence-building in the midst of ongoing security challenges.

This year’s contribution provides funding for perimeter and facility upgrades at a critical remote site and hub for both logistics and operations. The additional amount in our Fiscal Year (FY) 2018 (Japanese FY 2017) will be $1,700,000. Supplemental funding received from Japan in MFO FYs 2015 and 2016 were applied towards critical protective works at our Forward Operating Base North (previously our North Camp) and funding in FY 2017 was used for perimeter improvements at our South Camp.

Japan provided an annual contribution to the MFO’s general operating budget in our FY 1989 becoming the MFO’s first Donor State. They have been a steadfast donor ever since with annual contributions and, since FY 2015, supplemental contributions towards MFO force protection efforts. The MFO is very thankful for both Japan’s long-standing support of our peacekeeping efforts and for the exceptional support provided in recent years for the security and well-being of our personnel. These contributions also greatly assist the Treaty Parties in maintaining and fostering their relations and the peace.
