Japanese Supplemental Funding

For a fifth consecutive year, Japan has provided the MFO with supplemental funding in support of force protection efforts.

This year’s contribution ($1,517,857) provides funding for perimeter and facility upgrades to MFO Remote Site 2. This site is a transshipment point for MFO logistics, and improvements will facilitate MFO operations and site security. Supplemental funding received from Japan in MFO FYs 2015 and 2016 were applied towards critical protective works at our Forward Operating Base North (previously our North Camp). Funding in FY 2017 was used for perimeter improvements at our South Camp. Funding in FY 2018 went towards perimeter and facility work at our Remote Site 1.

Japan is the MFO’s first Donor State, providing continuous contributions to the MFO’s general operating budget since MFO FY 1989. Since FY 2015, Japan has also generously provided supplemental contributions towards MFO force protection to better ensure sustainment of the mission in the midst of ongoing security challenges. The MFO and the Treaty Parties, Egypt and Israel, are deeply grateful for Japan’s long-standing support of the MFO and for this exceptional support for the security and well-being of our personnel.
