MFO Change of Command

Major General Warren Whiting of New Zealand assumed command of the Multinational Force and Observers in the Sinai today from Major General Kjell Narve Ludvigsen of Norway.  The ceremony was presided over by the MFO's Director General, Ambassador David M. Satterfield, and in attendance were dignitaries from Egypt, Israel, New Zealand and Norway.

Ambassador Satterfield thanked Major General Ludvigsen for his commitment to the MFO and for the solid execution of the MFO's mission over the past three years. Ambassador Satterfield also welcomed Major General Whiting to the MFO and expressed confidence in his ability to maintain the professionalism, cohesion and success of the Force.

Major General Whiting will serve as the MFO's Force Commander for two years.

In addition to New Zealand and Norway, previous Force Commanders have come from Australia, Canada, Italy and the Netherlands.
