Exceptional Japanese Funding

Japan was the MFO’s initial Donor State; Japan has provided an annual contribution to the MFO since our Fiscal Year (FY) 1989.  On an extraordinary basis, now for the second year in a row, Japan has agreed to provide the MFO with additional funding to complete urgently needed force protection projects.

Canada Assumes Force Military Police Role From Hungary

On 23 March 2015, a change of command ceremony was held at the MFO’s North Camp in el Gorah to mark the assumption of Force military police duties by Canada, taking over this important role from Hungary. After twenty years of dedicated service to the MFO and the Peace between Egypt and Israel, Hungary will cease participation in the MFO. On 1 April 2015, a formal departure ceremony took place at the MFO’s South Camp in Sharm el Sheikh, and thereafter the remaining Hungarian contingent members departed the Sinai for Budapest. The MFO is very thankful for the valuable contribution made by Hungary over so many years and for all the dedicated work by the men and women who served with the Hungarian contingent at both the MFO’s camps in the Sinai. The Force Military Police role previously overseen by Hungary will now be carried out by the Canadian contingent augmented by approximately 40 Canadian Armed Forces Military Police. MFO Military Police provide a variety of support for the Force Commander in ensuring the good order and discipline of the Force.
