MFO Change of Command

Major General Warren Whiting of New Zealand assumed command of the Multinational Force and Observers in the Sinai today from Major General Kjell Narve Ludvigsen of Norway.  The ceremony was presided over by the MFO's Director General, Ambassador David M. Satterfield, and in attendance were dignitaries from Egypt, Israel, New Zealand and Norway.

Death of Former MFO Director General, Ambassador Wat T. Cluverius IV

Ambassador Cluverius was the MFO’s longest serving Director General.  He led the organization for ten years, from July 1988 to August 1998, and worked diligently to strengthen the MFO as a resource for the Treaty Parties and as a model for peace in the region.

The Czech Republic Joins the MFO Family of Troop Contributing States

At the annual Trilateral Meeting of the Multinational Force and Observers, held in Rome on November 16-17, the Director General, Ambassador David Satterfield, has announced that the MFO and the Czech Republic have concluded an agreement on Czech participation in the MFO. Czech officers will begin deployment this month to the Force in the Sinai where they will take up key positions on the staff of the MFO's Force Commander.
