Supporting Peace

Make a difference

The people of the MFO serve a historic mission in support of peace and regional stability.

Serving alongside the MFO’s military contingents is an exceptionally talented civilian workforce of about 150 people directly hired by the MFO and employed across MFO locations in Sinai, Representative Offices in Cairo and Tel Aviv, and the Headquarters in Rome. The MFO prides itself on a diverse workforce hailing from more than 20 countries and a robust overall representation of women. The MFO civilian workforce consists of two categories of employees.

International Staff: International Staff work in duty locations that are outside of their countries of origin or habitual residence. The majority of the MFO’s international staff positions are located in Sinai, Egypt. While the MFO accepts applicants of any origin, Treaty-related provisions place a nationality requirement on Civilian Observers. To comply with these provisions, these positions have to be filled by US citizens.

National Staff: National staff work in duty locations that are the same as their countries of origin or habitual residence. National staff positions are recruited locally in Italy and Israel and receive competitive packages aligned with the local labor market. The MFO employs about 30 national staff between the Headquarters in Rome, Italy, and the Representative Office in Tel Aviv, Israel.

Additionally, local Egyptian contract employees perform a wide range of essential functions in support of the MFO’s military contingents and civilian workforce in Sinai and Cairo.
