The MFO's South Camp, near Sharm el Sheikh on the southern tip of the Sinai Peninsula, is situated on a bluff overlooking the Red Sea.
It houses the Force Headquarters and serves as the operational and logistical base for MFO activities in the southern sector of Zone C.
OVERVIEW
SOUTH CAMP IN FOCUS
The camp also contains necessary facilities to support MFO personnel including a dining facility, accommodation, laundry services, a Force Exchange, a library, a gymnasium, an adjacent beach, and clubs. The transfer of Headquarters, operations, and support functions to South Camp in 2016 roughly doubled its population; more than it had been designed for at the outset of the MFO mission. This has required the use of temporary and modular buildings to provide adequate support for personnel accommodations, office and administrative functions, and base operations and logistic functions.
South Camp’s bulk water supply is provided through a local commercial water supplier with a secondary source of water provided by an on-site well and reverse osmosis desalinization plant. South Camp is connected to the local Egyptian electrical plant and wastewater sewage systems. There is also an electrical generating plant which can provide full emergency backup power. Additionally, a portion of the grey water from the laundry is treated and utilized for the irrigation of trees and shrubs on camp.
