The MFO officially inducted a new armored bus, funded by the Government of Japan, into our vehicle fleet on 22 July 2024. In attendance at the ceremony held at our South Camp was the Ambassador of Japan to the Arab Republic of Egypt, His Excellency Oka Hiroshi. He was accompanied by the MFO’s Force Commander, Major General Michael Garraway, and our Director General’s Representative in Cairo, Mr. Brad Lynch.
The new armored bus is equipped with a comprehensive suite of protective measures and advanced escape capabilities. Most critically, its addition to our vehicle fleet provides us with greater flexibility and redundancy as well as facilitating our movements between our northern and southern bases. Furthermore, it helps counter risk to our personnel and ensures that critical missions and activities are able to proceed.
The MFO heartily thanks the Government of Japan for this financial contribution in addition to its ongoing regular contribution towards food costs and civilian personnel salaries. We are tremendously grateful for the solid and wide-ranging support Japan provides, in funding and personnel, towards our peacekeeping mission and peace between Egypt and Israel.
