Japan-funded Armored Bus Welcomed into MFO Fleet

The MFO officially inducted a new armored bus, funded by the Government of Japan, into our vehicle fleet on 22 July 2024. In attendance at the ceremony held at our South Camp was the Ambassador of Japan to the Arab Republic of Egypt, His Excellency Oka Hiroshi. He was accompanied by the MFO’s Force Commander, Major General Michael Garraway, and our Director General’s Representative in Cairo, Mr. Brad Lynch.

Recent Visits to the MFO

Visits are a crucial element to understanding the MFO, our mission, and our role in promoting regional peace and stability. These visits result in productive dialogue with our Egyptian and Israeli colleagues, representatives of MFO Troop-Contributing and Donor States, and friends.

 

Recently, the MFO family had the privilege and pleasure of hosting the following guests in Sinai among many others:

 

  • Lieutenant General Patrick Frank – On August 1, 2024, Commanding General U.S. Army Central Command, Lieutenant General Patrick Frank, visited South Camp to preside over the change of command ceremony of the Commander of Task Force Sinai, the MFO Chief of Staff.
  • Colonel Štefan Grivalský – On August 11, 2024, Czechia’s Defense Attaché to the Arab Republic of Egypt, Colonel Štefan Grivalský, visited MFO South Camp and met with members of the Czech Contingent.
  • Her Excellency Adriana Lissidini – On August 25, 2024, the Uruguayan Ambassador to the Arab Republic of Egypt, H.E. Adriana Lissidini, visited MFO South Camp to attend a ceremony commemorating Uruguayan Independence Day with the Uruguayan Contingent and MFO personnel in attendance.
  • U.S. Congressional Delegation – On August 30, 2024, Senator Joni Ernst (R-Iowa), Representative Jim Banks (R-Indiana), and Representative John Curtis (R-Utah) visited MFO North Camp for a familiarization visit to learn more about the MFO mission and U.S. contributions to the MFO, in particular the visit highlighted the efforts of the Civilian Observer Unit and force protection elements.
  • Military Academy for Postgraduate and Strategic Studies – On September 1, 2024, students of the Egyptian Military Academy for Postgraduate and Strategic Studies visited MFO South Camp to learn more about the MFO and its mission. There were 28 students and 7 academy instructors who attended. Of the students, 18 were Egyptian and 10 were foreign, coming from Algeria, Kenya, Nigeria, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, South Sudan, Tanzania, and Yemen.
  • Colonel Rob McCullough – From September 1 to 4, 2024, the J4 for Headquarters Joint Forces New Zealand, COL Rob McCullough, visited the MFO to obtain a broader understanding of New Zealand’s contribution to the MFO mission, as well as a better understanding of the support structures present at our North and South Camp.
  • State Minister Kudo Shozo and Deputy Director-General Yoshida Takahiro – On September 9, 2024, State Minister Kudo Shozo and the Deputy Director-General of International Peace Cooperation, Mr. Yoshida Takahiro, visited the MFO to meet with the members of the Japanese Contingent and senior members of the MFO Sinai team.
  • Danish Foreign Minister, Danish Permanent Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs and the Danish Ambassador to Egypt – On September 10, 2024, the Danish Foreign Minister, Mr. Lars Løkke Rasmussen, the Danish Permanent Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Mr. Jeppe Tranholm-Mikkelsen, and the Ambassador to the Arab Republic of Egypt, Her Excellency Anne Dorte Riggelsen, visited the MFO’s North Camp for an orientation on the MFO’s unique mission and in conjunction with their return as an MFO Donor State.
  • Rear-Admiral Stefano Costantino – On September 11, 2024, Rear-Admiral Stefano Costantino, from the Italian Joint Operation Headquarters, attended multiple ceremonies relating to the change of commands for all three ITS vessels as well as the entire Italian Contingent, and participated in the awarding of national and MFO medals for those returning home to Italy.
  • Uruguayan Consul – On September 19, 2024, the Consul of the Oriental Republic of Uruguay in Egypt, Mr. Juan Ignacio Mazzoni, visited South Camp to attend the Uruguayan Medals and Awards Parade to recognize Uruguayan contingent members rotating home after their tour of service.
  • Colonel Catherine Logan – On October 28, 2024, U.S. Army Central Command J1, Colonel Catherine Logan, visited South Camp to visit with U.S. Contingent personnel. During her visit to the MFO, COL Logan and her team were able to discuss the unique requirements of the contingent as well as taking a tour of the mail facility. COL Logan was also able to recognize select soldiers for the significant impact of their work while in Sinai.

 

The MFO remains grateful to all our Supporting States and welcomes visits from their representatives.
