July in Full Swing: A Month of Milestones, Transitions, and Team Spirit at the MFO

The MFO is no stranger to a fast-paced tempo, and July was a perfect example.

In just 31 days, the MFO buzzed with activity: from Medal Parades and Change of Command ceremonies to the arrival and departure of contingent members, Force Readiness exercises, and camaraderie-building events that brought people together across national lines. Adding to the vibrant atmosphere were celebrations of key national events and a series of distinguished visits that emphasized the importance of international cooperation.

Among the many highlights, two moments stood out:

  • A New Chapter in Leadership

During the Canadian Contingent’s well-attended Change of Command Ceremony, Major General Michael Garraway, MFO Force Commander, presided over the formal Change of Appointment of the Force Sergeant Major. Chief Warrant Officer (CWO) Bruno Plamondon officially assumed the role of Force Sergeant Major, succeeding CWO Michael Martens after a dedicated year of service.

  • A Naval Farewell and a Welcome Return

On the coast, the Italian-led Coastal Patrol Unit marked a bittersweet transition. In a heartfelt naval ceremony, the Italian Contingent bid farewell to ITS Staffetta, honouring the crew’s service and the enduring spirit of the Italian Navy. At the same time, the MFO welcomed back ITS Sentinella, a long-anticipated return for the “Ships of the Desert,” the naval component of the MFO that plays a vital role in ensuring freedom of navigation in the Strait of Tiran.

Of course, these were just a few of the many events that filled the calendar. While it’s impossible to capture every moment, each activity, big or small, contributed to the strength and unity of the MFO’s work.

As the summer days begin to shorten, the MFO’s commitment remains unwavering. Through every transition, celebration, and challenge, the MFO’s activities continue, driven by hard work, shared purpose, and the dedication of our people.
