Supporting States Visit – July 8, 2021

On July 8, the MFO's Force and Observers in Sinai welcomed representatives from fourteen MFO Supporting States (Australia, Canada, Colombia, Finland, France, Germany, Israel, Japan, Netherlands, New Zealand, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom, and United States) to the MFO’s South Camp.

These familiarization visits allow us to share our important work in supporting the enduring peace between Egypt and Israel. It also provides us with an opportunity to thank our Supporting States personally for their generous contributions of military personnel and/or financial funding. Representatives from Troop-Contributing States were also able to meet with members of their military contingents.

Twenty-eight representatives took part in the event including Ambassadors, Deputy Heads of Mission, Military Attachés, and other diplomatic officials. The MFO Director General’s Representative in Israel, Mr. Thomas Goldberger, and the Head of the Israel Defense Forces International Cooperation Division, Brigadier General Efraim Defrin, accompanied the visitors from Tel Aviv.

Major General Evan Williams (New Zealand), our Force Commander, greeted representatives and thanked them for their assistance in sustaining the MFO mission. Briefings provided by MFO staff included our response to COVID, the ongoing successful conduct of our mission, and measures to ensure the continued well-being and safety of our personnel.
