Driving Skills Competition

Driving is an essential part of the MFO’s mission in Sinai. It enables us to transport equipment and personnel and to carry out daily tasks including Treaty-required observation duties.

Safe driving is an absolute priority for the MFO, particularly given the Sinai’s harsh desert environment. Not only does it enhance our drivers’ overall performance on the road but also contributes to creating a safe environment for everyone. As such, every MFO Sinai member receives introductory training, which consists of rigorous theoretical and practical driving exercises and examination.

As part of the MFO’s commitment to safe driving, every year drivers from North and South Camp come together to showcase their abilities in a diverse range of driving challenges. This year, from September 25 to 26, more than 30 MFO Sinai members from various contingents came together and tested their abilities during the 2023 Force Skills Driving Competition. Approximately 10 MFO evaluators assessed their performance based on:

      • driving theory,
      • safe driving (around a circuit),
      • service maintenance and changing tires,
      • vehicle incident response and performing first aid, and
      • local driving in the Sharm El Sheikh area.

After a thorough assessment of performances, the Australian Contingent team was proclaimed the winner with the New Zealand Contingent winning silver, and the Canadian Contingent, bronze.

Congratulations to this year’s winners and all the participants for promoting safe driving!
